COVID-19 Protocols for World Skeet Championships

August 29, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

The NSSA and National Shooting Complex will implement a comprehensive list of COVID-19 protocols to reduce risks and prioritize the safety of our 2020 World Skeet Championships participants, guests, vendors, and NSC staff. Below are the protocols we will follow:

  • Parking passes will be required in an effort to prevent non-shooters from driving around the complex.
  • We will check the temperature of shooters going into Registration.
  • All shooters will receive a face mask and a small bottle of hand sanitizer in their goodie bag.
  • Squads will be asked to maintain social distancing in the field, i.e., 6 feet between shooters waiting their turn to shoot.
  • Voice-release wands will not be used, allowing for social distancing between shooters and the referee.
  • We will minimize the number of workers and shooters inside Registration at one time.
  • Plexiglass barriers will be used in Registration, the Pro Shop, and Ammo Building to protect the shooters and staff.
  • Tables and chairs at the Club House and patio are spread out to facilitate social distancing.
  • Masks are required at all times inside any building and in all other areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • We will take the temperature of referees and loaders every morning prior to shooting.
  • There will be no communal water jugs or coolers provided on the field. Instead, staff members will distribute bottles of water on the fields prior to each flight.
  • To discourage congregation of shooters, there will not be a printed scoreboard. Shooters will need to look online to see the scores or at TVs spaced out outside Registration and at the Club House.
  • There will be an EMT onsite during all shooting flights. They will be available to take the temperature of anyone who needs it and help as needed for medical issues.
  • To discourage on-site shopping, we will encourage participants to pre-order event merchandise for pick-up during registration and will have very limited quantities of merchandise for sale at the event.
  • We will not host social events, i.e., the Hall of Fame Banquet, that do not allow for social distancing.

No Change of Plans in Recognition Programs

August 26, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

At this time, the NSSA is continuing as planned with our 2021 Krieghoff All-American Teams, Class All-American Teams, High Average Leaders, Honor Squad, SCTP All-Americans, and Clubs of the Year as reflected in the current target minimums and the associated teams and club criteria.

NSSA will continue our bimonthly All-American points processing. The All-American, Rules, and Executive Committees will continue their collaboration and monitor the effects of the COVID-19 crisis and the impact to our members and clubs as they strive to make the best decisions for the association. We will communicate any changes via your Zone Committeemen, Directors, and the NSSA website as the shooting season progresses.

COVID-19 Update: Postponed or Canceled Events

July 27, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

With concerns about the spread of COVID-19, many shooters and member clubs are making decisions about continuing with planned events. Because our member clubs and their events are throughout the U.S. and beyond, where circumstances vary greatly, each club will make its own decision about any changes in plans. We urge our member clubs and individual members to heed the advice of medical experts and advisories/requirements of their local and state governments regarding hosting and attending events. Please contact clubs directly for any questions about specific events. As we learn about canceled or postponed events, we will add them to the list below, post on our social media pages, and announce in Target Talk.

If an event does not appear below, we have not been notified of cancellation or postponement.

Clubs: If you are cancelling or postponing an event, please notify Sherry Kerr, skerr@nssa-nsca.com, to be included on this list.

Inaugural Kolar U.S. Open Postponed to 2021

May 8, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

The NSSA Executive Committee, U.S. Open Committee, U.S. Open host clubs, and our sponsor have collaborated and concluded the inaugural Kolar U.S. Open is untenable in the current climate. In accordance with NSSA’s COVID-19 policy, we have placed our members’ health and safety at the forefront of our decision as we considered the respective state parameters and associated risk to host this event.

The inaugural Kolar U.S. Open is rescheduled for June 25-27, 2021. Each of the 10 clubs selected for this year’s event will host in 2021.

Thanks to the 815 registered shooters and their desire to participate in this unique event as we endeavor to expand the U.S. Open to multiple clubs across the United States. Registered participants will receive more information on Monday, May 11, and you can monitor posts at nssausopen.com.

A special thanks for the support and dedication of our host clubs since the inception of the i-shoot U.S. Open format. Each of the clubs has conducted i-shoot training during the previous two months in preparation for this event. Thanks to Clark Hartness for his vision and dedication to build the premiere event.

In closing, a special thanks to our sponsor, Kolar Arms, for their support and desire to pioneer an i-shoot format to a premier NSSA event.

We look forward to the debut of this event in 2021!

Update from the NSSA Executive Committee

April 20, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

Friends, as we reported earlier, your Executive Committee and presidential committees have been working diligently to assure the future of our association during these unprecedented times. Our headquarters staff has been continually working and monitoring all of our associations functions. Your EC has been meeting at least once a week. Minutes from these meetings are published on our website.

Your joint NSCA-NSSA Finance Committee has been working with our CFO and others to model various scenarios concerning our spending and potential income for the balance of the year. Proposals have been approved by the EC, and next steps are in the works. Details are in our weekly minutes.

Headquarters’ application for stimulus Payroll Protection Plan dollars was applied for and approved by our bank. Funding occurred last week. This is great news, since we currently have very limited income. In reality, this stimulus money should manifest itself as a grant, since we will meet the criteria for retaining employees and spending the funds as specified.

We’re interested in hearing how our membership and clubs are spending this slowdown and would like to interview some members and clubs for potential stories in Clay Target Nation. Have clubs found ways to offer shooting while maintaining social distancing and following local guidelines? Are you a first responder or essential worker who has stories to tell about your work during the COVID-19 pandemic? Have you found other ways to help your community during this time of great need? We’d like to hear about it. Contact Sherry Kerr, skerr@nssa-nsca.com, with your stories and ideas.

We wish we could report that the worst is over and everything is business as usual. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and things change almost daily. Knowing that, your headquarters staff, along with its volunteer army, will continue to work for the association and keep you informed.
