The September issue of Clay Target Nation is full of event coverage and helpful advice that will have you shooting better and having even more fun.

In our Training Tips columns, John Shima encourages us to control our self-talk—you wouldn’t speak to someone else as negatively as you let your brain talk to you, so clean up the negativity. On the sporting clays side, Anthony Matarese Jr. has a message for shooters: Control the things you can, and let go of the things you can’t.

In features, Tim Le Cras takes a deep dive into adjustable-rib shotguns, interviewing several skeet and sporting clays shooters and instructors about what they like about high or adjustable ribs. Victoria Stellato explains why your skeet break points should really be more like break zones, and she instructs shooters on how to develop the break zone that works for them. We also take a look at Greater Houston Sports Club’s famed Buckle Race series and how it can serve as a model for other clubs to increase participation.

2020-2024 Kolar U.S. Open iShoot Approved by EC

Two major changes are in store for the U.S. Open starting in 2020. Kolar has offered and the Executive Committee has approved a five-year title sponsorship of the event for the years 2020 through 2024, during which it will be known as the Kolar U.S. Open. In addition, the EC has approved the adoption of an iShoot format to increase participation and allow all members to participate by providing satellite sites at clubs closer to their homes. “Our goal is to deliver the U.S. Open to you in a traditional weekend format, Friday to Sunday; bring a national-level shoot to a club closer to you; and expand participants across our states, provinces, and zones,” the EC reported.

The EC took the action during a December 10, 2018 phone conference to discuss the U.S. Open Committee’s report exploring an iShoot format for the U.S. Open.

Kolar’s title sponsorship will provide $15,000 annually in prize money, U.S. Open rings, guns, and awards.

Host club bidding criteria will be published in February for clubs desiring to serve as one of the iShoot satellite sites. The National Shooting Complex will serve as shoot management and host club for participants.

Details are being finalized and will be publicized throughout 2019.
