Update from the NSSA Executive Committee

April 20, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

Friends, as we reported earlier, your Executive Committee and presidential committees have been working diligently to assure the future of our association during these unprecedented times. Our headquarters staff has been continually working and monitoring all of our associations functions. Your EC has been meeting at least once a week. Minutes from these meetings are published on our website.

Your joint NSCA-NSSA Finance Committee has been working with our CFO and others to model various scenarios concerning our spending and potential income for the balance of the year. Proposals have been approved by the EC, and next steps are in the works. Details are in our weekly minutes.

Headquarters’ application for stimulus Payroll Protection Plan dollars was applied for and approved by our bank. Funding occurred last week. This is great news, since we currently have very limited income. In reality, this stimulus money should manifest itself as a grant, since we will meet the criteria for retaining employees and spending the funds as specified.

We’re interested in hearing how our membership and clubs are spending this slowdown and would like to interview some members and clubs for potential stories in Clay Target Nation. Have clubs found ways to offer shooting while maintaining social distancing and following local guidelines? Are you a first responder or essential worker who has stories to tell about your work during the COVID-19 pandemic? Have you found other ways to help your community during this time of great need? We’d like to hear about it. Contact Sherry Kerr, skerr@nssa-nsca.com, with your stories and ideas.

We wish we could report that the worst is over and everything is business as usual. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and things change almost daily. Knowing that, your headquarters staff, along with its volunteer army, will continue to work for the association and keep you informed.

NSSA-NSCA Receives Funding Through PPP

April 16, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

The NSSA-NSCA is committed to continuing to provide timely, quality service to all of our members and member clubs through these challenging times. To that end, the NSSA-NSCA has applied for and received funding through the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) offered by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide resources that will be used to maintain staffing so that we can do just that.

Many of our clubs may qualify for PPP funding. We encourage clubs to contact their respective banks to see if they qualify and apply for both federal and state relief funding. For more details on federal funding, please use this SBA link: https://www.sba.gov/page/coronavirus-covid-19-small-business-guidance-loan-resources.

SFR Redemptions Delayed, More Time to Save

April 10, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

Sourcing our catalog of products for redemption in the Shooting for Rewards program will be a challenge for the next few months, so it is necessary for us to suspend redemptions until September 1 when we trust it will be easier to acquire the items needed and have products customized. To make it up to you, we’re giving you an EXTRA YEAR before your points expire, meaning you can now collect points for FIVE years to redeem for the items you want.

Shooting for Rewards points are earned every time you shoot registered targets. You automatically earn a point for every target registered, and skeet shooters have opportunities to earn multiple points for major events. Points may be redeemed for logo merchandise, event fees, and more.

To see your points total, login to MyNSSA.com or MyNSCA.com and visit My Home Page. Starting September 1, you can also go there to redeem your points. Find something you want but don’t have enough points? Not a problem. Now  you have five years to use your points before they expire.

NSSA-NSCA Scholarship Funds Doubled for 2020

February 1, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

NSSA and NSCA have doubled their commitment to their scholarship programs and will each award four $5000 college scholarships this year to deserving members who will graduate from high school and start a four-year college program in 2020.

The scholarships will be awarded based on academics, citizenship, and participation in NSSA or NSCA. Applicants must submit an application, a short essay, a transcript, and a letter of recommendation. The scholarships are paid incrementally by semester, and students must maintain a B average.

The deadline to apply has been extended to March 15, 2020. Scholarship winners will be notified prior to the end of the school year and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Clay Target Nation.
