Clubs: Register 2018 Shoots for CTN Publication

September 19, 2017 By Sherry Kerr

Most NSSA member clubs’ memberships expire December 31, 2017. We’re asking you to renew early and register your 2018 shoots soon to take advantage of two opportunities::

  • Clubs renewing by November 1 will be entered into our Club Membership Renewal Drawing.
  • Shoots registered by November 30 will be listed in the February issue of Clay Target Nation magazine.

If you renew by November 1, you could be drawn to win:

  • Grand Prize – Five year NSSA Club Membership
  • 2nd – Entry to the 2018 World Skeet Championships Main Event
  • 3rd – Entry to the 2018 Blaser Main Event
  • 4th – Six-year NSSA Membership
  • 5th – NSSA Shooter’s Package

To have your registered shoots listed in the February 2018 issue of Clay Target Nation, two steps are required by November 30:

  • Membership renewal
  • Complete an NSSA Registered Shoot Application and submit it to your state/ provincial association for approval. The association will submit approved shoots to NSSA.

TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP

ONLINE: Go to NSSA Club Renewal Form. You can do the entire renewal process, including payment, by following the instructions there. Update all club contact and other information.

BY MAIL: If you prefer to renew by mail, go to the NSSA Club Renewal Form, update your club information page, then print it rather than submitting online. (Right-click, then select print.) This is a fillable form, so you can complete it online before printing. Mail it with your $50 dues to Stephanie Haga, NSSA, 5931 Roft Rd., San Antonio, TX 78253.

BY PHONE: Call 1-800-877-5338 ext. 122. Please have your member club number and credit card handy.  Also, review your club’s information on the NSSA Club Renewal Form and be prepared to provide any needed updates.

ADDRESS CHANGES: Regardless of how you renew, please be sure to update all your contact information to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of your important club benefits. When you click the NSSA Club Renewal Form and enter your club member number, the information on file for your club will populate the form for updating. You may also provide it by phone at 1-800-877-5338 ext. 122.

REGISTERING 2018 SHOOTS

Download and complete the Registered Skeet Shoot Application form and send it to your State/Provincial Association for shoot date approval. This is also a fillable form that you can complete online, then print or save for emailing. Your State/Provincial Association will forward the shoot application form to headquarters when approved. It is important for you to specify if the shoot is Notable, Zone, State (Provincial), or International.

Approved shoot applications must be received at headquarters by November 30, 2017, for your shoots to be included in the February 2018 issue of Clay Target Nation.

Thank you for renewing your club membership. Your participation assures the growth and continuation of skeet for the next generation. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact Stephanie Haga, Club Administrator, at 210-688-3371 ext. 122 or shaga@nssa-nsca.com, Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST.

Arizona State Champ, Brian Anderson, Passes

July 13, 2017 By Sherry Kerr

On June 19 the skeet shooting community lost a great competitor and true ambassador to the shooting sports, Brian S. Anderson. Throughout his life, Brian participated in a number of shooting sports, settling into the game of skeet in 2009. In eight short years, Brian established himself as an accomplished competitor, skeet supporter, as well as a coach in Phoenix, Arizona, and Rockford, Illinois.

If Brian wasn’t in Rockford attending to his automotive business, he could be found in the early morning on the skeet fields with his wife Judy at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix. If asked when he would be at the club next, his answer was, “I only shoot on days that end in Y.” Brian never practiced alone, drawing adult and youth shooters alike, working on his game as well as coaching others, in particular helping with new young competitors. Brian was the “go-to guy” for parents looking for instruction, advice on what gun to buy their son or daughter, sourcing reloading components, and any of the myriad questions shooters new to the sport always have. He always obliged whatever the request and took great pleasure in helping others in a sport that he loved.

All that practice and concentration on the overall game paid off with Brian winning the HOA Arizona State Titles in 2016 and 2017, as well as posting numerous AA/AAA scores at other competitions in Arizona and the World Skeet Championships. In addition to competition, Brian was a Director on the Board of Claybusters of Arizona, the current vice-president of the Arizona Skeet Shooting Association, an active SCTP shotgun coach, and a Level 1 NSSA Certified Instructor.

Always calm and unassuming, Brian made his mark on the sport and so many lives through his actions and the example he lived. Our sport needs people like Brian and although his life and time to participate in this great sport was cut short, he left an example for many to follow, and a legacy of young, accomplished skeet shooters lining up to climb on the winners’ podium.

Don’t Miss the 2017 Krieghoff Masters Skeet Shoot!

April 10, 2017 By Sherry Kerr

Krieghoff Masters logoIf good targets, high-quality competition, and tradition are high on your list of priorities for a great skeet shoot, you can’t do better than the annual Krieghoff Masters Skeet Championship! Set at Forest City Gun Club against the backdrop of one of the South’s most intriguing cities, Savannah, Georgia, the Krieghoff Masters has become an event no one wants to miss and a must for those chasing the best skeet tournaments in the country.

Founded in 1883, Forest City Gun Club lays claim as the oldest and largest continuously operated skeet, trap, and sporting clays club in America. With 537 acres and amenities such as 23 skeet fields, trap fields and sporting clays courses, a 40-acre lake, a grand club house and other structures, Forest City offers much more than just good targets – it offers an experience!

How about turning your trip to the Masters into a “claycation”? See our article in the April 2016 issue of Clay Target Nation on doing just that. We tell you what else to see and do in the Savannah area.

This year’s Krieghoff Masters Skeet Championship will be May 4-7, and there is still room for you! You can find registration information and other details on our website or go to http://bit.ly/K_Masters.
