Changes Made in 2024 World Shoot Format

January 15, 2024 By Sherry Kerr

The World Shoot format has been modified for 2024. The changes start with the schedule of the Mini World, which will have one rotation of 12-gauge on Friday. This will allow for an earlier finish on Sunday afternoon. The order of events shot has also changed for the four-guns to the standard 12, 20, 28 and .410.

For the Main, the Wayne Mayes event will return to a shot event with a box of each gauge shot. This will occur on Monday before the Doubles event starts.

The 12-Gauge Main has also changed to a 200-target format, with 100 shot on Tuesday and 100 shot on Wednesday. Adding the Wayne Mayes and the additional 12-gauge targets requires extending the event through Saturday, October 5, so be sure to accommodate that day in your travel plans.

A revised registration form reflecting these changes has been posted on our World Shoot page. Changes have been made to the rotation options for the Mini and the Main, so please pay careful attention to your selections. Note that the rotations for the Doubles and 4-guns of the Mini have been combined, so you will only make one choice for the Mini World. One major change is reflected in Rotation 1 of the Mini, which will shoot the 12-Gauge on Friday. If you do not wish to shoot doubles, please indicate such or use the individual event boxes to make your event selections. Similarly in the Main, the Wayne Mayes and Doubles rotations are combined. If you do not plan to shoot the Wayne Mayes Event and will only shoot the Main Doubles, you will need to select Rotation 3 or 4.

If you previously pre-registered, you will maintain your original position for rotation assignments. Stephanie Haga is in the process of contacting everyone who has already pre-registered to get their updated rotation preferences.

If you have preferred rotations, we urge you to submit your registration form as soon as possible, as rotations are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to accommodate your first rotation preferences to the best of our ability, but you can improve your chances of receiving your preferred choices by submitting your registration form early. We look forward to hosting another successful World Skeet Championships again in 2024!

Updated Ammunition Policy for World Shoot

August 26, 2021 By Sherry Kerr

The National Shooting Complex has updated its ammunition policy for the upcoming World Skeet Championships to address availability issues:

We have been working diligently with all of our ammunition sponsors to secure as much ammunition as possible for the World Skeet Championships. Despite our efforts to ensure that we have enough ammunition on hand, we unfortunately WILL NOT have enough on site for everyone to purchase for everything they are planning to participate in. We have a great deal of ammunition on hand, but knowing the demand will be higher this year, we want to ensure there isn’t a shortage.

Based on this information, we strongly advise bringing your own ammunition, especially sub-gauge loads, to the event. Bringing your own is the only way to guarantee you will have ammunition to shoot.

This does not mean you cannot attend if you cannot bring your own ammo. Our request for participants to bring ammunition is to ensure that EVERY shooter is able to shoot EVERY event they want.

Many shooters already possess or have local access to all the ammunition they need for the World Shoot and the rest of their shooting year, and many shooters drive to the National Shooting Complex, making it easy for them to bring ammunition with them. If that applies to you, we encourage you to consider bringing yours to allow those who do not have and cannot acquire it locally, international shooters who cannot bring or ship theirs, and those for whom shipping is cost-prohibitive to purchase what they need at the event.

Sub-gauge loads are our primary concern, especially 20-gauge. As a reminder, reloads are allowed for all events.

If you must purchase ammunition at the event, please be aware that you will only be allowed to purchase enough to cover your competition events. Verification of event entry will be required to purchase ammunition. No practice ammunition will be sold at the event.

For participants flying to the World Skeet Championships, we advise shipping your ammunition. UPS guidelines for shipping can be viewed at UPS Guidelines (Scroll down for Shipping Ammunition). Ammunition should be sent to the participant’s name and reference the event. The mailing address is 5931 Roft Road, San Antonio, TX 78253.

Again, we are not requiring every shooter to bring ammunition to the National Championship. If you are one of the fortunate shooters to have adequate supplies and a means of transporting it to the NSC, we are asking you to help us ensure that EVERY shooter has access to what they need.

We understand this is an inconvenience and apologize in advance.

NSSA-NSCA Acquires Property Adjacent to NSC

January 10, 2021 By Sherry Kerr

Click image to enlarge map. This property overview shows the location of the new tract in relation to the original property and major features of the National Shooting Complex.
On December 31, NSSA-NSCA completed the purchase of 23+ acres adjoining the National Shooting Complex that creates a buffer from development and helps protect the association’s investment in its San Antonio, Texas, property.

The land purchase is an important investment in the future of the National Shooting Complex, preventing any type of encroachments of residential or commercial development adjacent to our property boundary. This investment received unanimous support from the joint NSSA-NSCA Finance Committee and the Executive Committee.

“The NSSA-NSCA bought this property as a buffer from the continuous growth that we’re seeing around the National Shooting Complex,” said Michael Hampton, Jr., NSSA-NSCA Executive Director. “We’ve long wanted to add this property to the complex, and we are very fortunate that it became available to us at a time when we were able to leverage the market strength and our futures portfolio to do this purchase without encumbering the association with long-term debt.”

The property adjoins the southwest side of the National Shooting Complex that has access off Gass Road. Twenty acres are under agricultural exemption. It includes a 2300-square-foot house and a deep, large-capacity well. It has almost 500 feet of frontage on Gass Road, and one side of the property has a gravel road that separates it from neighboring property. It has a 1200-foot common border with the original NSC property.

“As we all know, land is something that they will not make any more of, and when the opportunity arises to buy some that attaches to our current 600 acres, we need to take it,” said Hampton. “The property had been in the Skolaut family for over 70 years, and the family gave the association the first opportunity to buy this land, as we have been good neighbors to them. At closing, Mrs. Skolaut’s daughter said, ‘It’s sad to see it go, but we’re happy, and I know my mother is happy, that it’s going to the gun club.’”

For questions about the property acquisition, contact Executive Director Michael Hampton or an NSSA-NSCA officer.

COVID-19 Protocols for World Skeet Championships

August 29, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

The NSSA and National Shooting Complex will implement a comprehensive list of COVID-19 protocols to reduce risks and prioritize the safety of our 2020 World Skeet Championships participants, guests, vendors, and NSC staff. Below are the protocols we will follow:

  • Parking passes will be required in an effort to prevent non-shooters from driving around the complex.
  • We will check the temperature of shooters going into Registration.
  • All shooters will receive a face mask and a small bottle of hand sanitizer in their goodie bag.
  • Squads will be asked to maintain social distancing in the field, i.e., 6 feet between shooters waiting their turn to shoot.
  • Voice-release wands will not be used, allowing for social distancing between shooters and the referee.
  • We will minimize the number of workers and shooters inside Registration at one time.
  • Plexiglass barriers will be used in Registration, the Pro Shop, and Ammo Building to protect the shooters and staff.
  • Tables and chairs at the Club House and patio are spread out to facilitate social distancing.
  • Masks are required at all times inside any building and in all other areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • We will take the temperature of referees and loaders every morning prior to shooting.
  • There will be no communal water jugs or coolers provided on the field. Instead, staff members will distribute bottles of water on the fields prior to each flight.
  • To discourage congregation of shooters, there will not be a printed scoreboard. Shooters will need to look online to see the scores or at TVs spaced out outside Registration and at the Club House.
  • There will be an EMT onsite during all shooting flights. They will be available to take the temperature of anyone who needs it and help as needed for medical issues.
  • To discourage on-site shopping, we will encourage participants to pre-order event merchandise for pick-up during registration and will have very limited quantities of merchandise for sale at the event.
  • We will not host social events, i.e., the Hall of Fame Banquet, that do not allow for social distancing.

New Hospitality Rooms Available at World Shoot

September 18, 2019 By Sherry Kerr

For the first time at the World Skeet Championships, the National Shooting Complex has two new hospitality suites that are being made available for rent to World Shoot participants and vendors. Located in the newly constructed third vendor building, the new units are each 20 feet x 30 feet (600 square feet), with a glass store-front view to the north and easy access with numeric keypad lock.

Shooters may rent the suites by the day for use by a squad or friends before and after shooting, for parties, or just a place to relax. Each includes two couches, coffee table, a high-top table and chairs, TV with cable channels, refrigerator, and heat/air conditioning. It also includes two reserved parking spaces on the day the unit is rented.

The suites are available starting September 23 through October 4. For the World Shoot, the suites are being offered at an inaugural rate of $175 per day. To reserve one, contact Olivia Gracia at nscrv@nssa-nsca.com or 210-688-3371 ext. 244.
